Tap & Hip Hop Instructor

Julie Phillips started dancing at the age of 2 and hasn’t stopped since. She trained at Tualatin Dance Studio and then at the age of 6 switched to Lake Oswego Academy of Dance, she was invited to their Performing company where she trained competitively in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, and Lyrical. After a year of assistant teaching, Julie taught her own classes and choreographed for competition teams in the styles of Tap and Jazz. Julie went on to dance on her College Dance Team at Portland State University. There she trained in the styles of Jazz and Hip Hop, performing routines choreographed by some of the most prominent and acclaimed instructors in professional team dancing. Julie spent two of her four years on PSU Dance Team as Captain where she led practices, games and events as well as select choreography for the team to perform. While dancing and teaching during college, Julie also took multiple informative dance classes learning about the history, fundamentals and growth of dance as an art form over the years. Since graduating Julie has attended workshops such as Monsters of Hip Hop and Tremaine to continue her dance education. Julie is now on her 10th year of teaching, specializing in Competitive Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop while also teaching Jazz Funk, Ballet, and Lyrical. Julie loves sharing her passion and love of dance with the next generation of dancers and hopes to continue teaching her students dance education along with life skills such as perseverance, adaptability, leadership and confidence. Julie couldn’t be more excited to be part of the Forest Grove Dance Arts Family!
